the 9 days on stage
The conceptual artist Lawrence Weiner creates works in public and private spaces whose raw material is language. In bold lettering, drawn and given notoriety by him, they often describe a materiality, a symbol, an abstraction, or spatial coordinates. In this work, we can clearly observe the translation process that permeates Weiner’s entire body of work, both from the language that changes from English to adapt to the location of the exhibition, and that of an object into text. MOLTEN SILVER ON COLD STAINLESS STEEL PENDING RESOLVE is the description of an apparently impossible procedure, of a technique for fusing two materials. At the same time that it is the description of a method, it visually produces a sculptural materiality, as if we witness something hanging in space. In addition to demonstrating the state of suspension that the lot in front of the work finds itself in, with regard to its multiple possible futures, through this work by an artist known for his graphic identity, the surface of the buildings’ façades and blind sides is established as an exhibition wall on a giant scale.
